The past nine months has been an amazing feeling. I have been happy, scared, nervous, and calm over and over again since March. On March 25th I found out I was going to be a dad. At that point I think I was immediately speechless and scared. But, as each day went by I seemed to calm down, aside from the occasional nervous moment or day. With each doctors appointment I became more and more excited. I remember getting my first ultrasound photo and I carried that thing around with me like it was gold.
There was one thing that drove me crazy during these nine months: When family or anyone would make the comment "It will change your life." Most of the time I just let it go but a few times I had to comment back. If there is anyone out there that thinks having a child will not change your life then they are the ones that need the speeches. I think some people mean nothing by it, but others want you to believe that your life is going to change for the worse, and others really do mean that life will change for the better. No one intended to get on my nerves with this comment but for some reason it did.
There are a lot of things in this world that I don't know and won't ever know but I am smart enough to know that having a child is, first of all, a miracle, and second of all, going to change our lives. I don't know of anything that has ever made me forget about racing, but right now I couldn't care less if I ever went to another race. But I also know that I will have to go back to the races to provide for my little guy. I don't ever remember everything around me taking such a back seat but it has. So, thanks for all of the warnings but I knew my life was going to change.
For all of you out there that are trying to become parents I am going to pass this phrase on to you so I don't have to hear it again. It is going to change your life!
Later I will post some of my thoughts from Ford's first two weeks of being with us. His hospital stay all the way to his first week at home. Thanks for reading.

Jason A. Jarrett-Bill Krick Update and Charity Event
Last night I was fortunate to have the opportunity to Bowl in the 7th annual Jeff Gordon Foundation bowling tournament. The Dale Jarrett Foundation entered a team as did many other foundations and supportive individuals that wanted to help raise money for Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis. We had a great time for a great cause!
Below is the latest update from the Krick family concerning Bill's heart surgery. Infromation pertaining to Bill and his recovery can also be followed on the official ARCA website, www.ARCARACING.com.
(7-25-08, 10 a.m.)--Per family (Diana and daughters), Bill Krick is making steady improvement and his recovery process is on schedule as expected. Bill is expected to move from post-op/recovery area to a regular hospital room on Friday. He is conscious and alert for longer periods of time and is anticipating to be released from the hospital to go home as early as Sunday or Monday.
(7-23-08, 6:30 p.m.)--Information provided by Diana Krick indicates that Bill Krick has emerged from a difficult and longer-than anticipated heart by-pass surgery. He is heavily sedated and on a ventilator for the next 48 hours but is progressing as would-be anticipated, based on the complications of the surgery.
Today (7/21/2008) I recieved a call from Bill Krick's daughter. When the number popped up on my phone I thought it was Pastor Krick, just checking in as he was known to do from time to time. But this time it was his daughter calling to let me know that Bill has had a heart attack. Needless to say, I was in shock and disbelief, so I was not able to gather too much information about his condition. He is in a North Carolina hospital and will be having heart surgery. I am not sure of any other specifics and it is probably not my place to publish that anyway. But, I felt the need to let everyone know that Bill and his family really need your thoughts and caring as they go through this trying time.

The ARCA/ReMax Series was good to me during my time there. While race in the series for five years I was fortunate to meet some great people. Don't get me wrong, the racing was fun, but I now realize that the people I met while I was there was much more important that any on track results. Two of the most important people I met were Bill and Diana Krick.
Bill and Diana are the founders of Focus Motorsports Ministries (http://www.focusmm.org/). Focus has been a huge undertaking for the Kricks. They travel to each race to provide everyone in the garage or anyone at the track with their uplifting guidance. Each week they put together a worship service for the owners, drivers, and families attending the ARCA races. Not only do they provide a time and a place for worship but they are always walking the garage area to greet the competitors and other guests in the garage. Bill doesn't care if you are the fastest car or the slowest, he just cares that you are okay. He always asks about those in need and does whatever he can to provide comfort for anyone that is hurting. If you take the checkerd flag or end up taking the ride to the infield care center, the Kricks are always there. You may not even know them and they may not know you but they have your well being in mind. It may be your first race in the series or your last, they do not care about that. Bill and Diana do all of this on their own. They rely totally on donations of cash, auction items, hotel rooms, gas, or whatever you can provide so they can chase their dreams of helping others.
This week I was made aware that FocusMM may be in jeopardy of not being able to continue traveling to the ARCA races. At first, I was a little shocked and then I just got mad. I know that is not the right attitude so I decided to turn that anger into a more positive thing and try to help FocusMM and the Kricks. We all have certain people and causes that we can passionately get behind and Focus Motorsports Ministries, and more importantly, Bill and Diana Krick are one of those causes I am behind. They have helped us for years. Now, it is time to help them. Money is tight for everyone. Fuel is expensive for everyone. Hotel rooms are ridiculously high. So, let's all get behind them and do what we can to keep their dreams alive.
It is terrible for me to say, but I have only seen Bill and Diana a few times since I have not been around the ARCA garage. I have fallen out of touch with them but they still hold a special place with me. Hopefully, it is not too late to keep their messages going at the track. And, whether any of us realize it or not we all need people like them in our lives. From this point on, I will try to make more of an effort to help and get help for FocusMM.org and more importantly for Bill and Diana Krick.

New Opportunities in 2008
Racing is one of those businesses that you are always preparing for that next move. I don't mean that in a bad way it just seems to be the way it is in this sport. It is not that you are always looking for a job but you know after a while of being involved when to seriously look in a new direction.
My situation was a little different. I knew after spotting for dad the past two seasons that he and I would be a spotter/driver combination until he retired. That didn't completely hold true but we did work together in his final full season. I would have liked to spotted for him through these last seven races but it would be hard to get another job spotting for someone else in May. There are not many openings that time of year.
So, after dad announced his limited schedule I knew that it was time to start looking. It took a while (about 4-5 days before the Daytona pre-season testing was to start) to find a new spotting job. But, I was fortunate to get connected with Scott Riggs and Haas CNC Racing. We have been to three testing sessions: Daytona, Las Vegas, and California. Things seem to be going well and Scott and I are getting a chance to hear each other on the radio before the season starts. It takes some time to develop that full trust between spotter and driver. I am looking forward to the rest of the season as we have all taken on new opportunities.
The most significant change for me came as a result of a very unfortunate situation at Dale Jarrett Inc. DJI is a central office that houses a retail store with NASCAR driver merchandise, The Dale Jarrett Fan Club, The Dale Jarrett Foundation, and other business and charitable ventures. Back in November we lost a dear friend Rick Bowman (some of you might have know him as "Biscuit"). Not only was he a very important mentor in my life and a great friend to my dad and all of the employees at DJI, he was a long time employee. It is hard to describe what all he did but believe me, no one could replace him. I guess his title was general manager but he was and always will be much more than any job title. No one that ever met Rick could say anything bad about him. I am glad he was part of my life for so many years!
As a result of Rick's untimely passing dad and DJI were left with a huge void. Dad came to me and as we discussed the possibility of continuing Rick's work my world stopped. I was honored dad considered me for the position. It did not take long to give dad an answer. I didn't even know all of what Rick did but I knew that I wanted to try and carry on the good things he was doing at DJI. So, as I enter 2008 I have many new and exciting opportunities that I can't wait to embark upon.
One person that I really need to ackwoledge and thank is Tim Shannon at Dale Jarrett Racing Adventure. Way back in 2005 after my last ARCA race I went to Tim to see if there were any opportunities or anthing I could do to help at DJRA. Since then Tim and DJRA have helped me learn a lot. Without Tim's help for the past few years I don't think I would have been prepared to help continue Rick's work at DJI. Hopefully, I can rely on Tim's advice for many years to come.

Best Race of the Year Just Around the Next Turn
There is a racetrack out there that will always come to my mind when people mention “great” racetracks. Most of you haven’t been there and even more of you have never been there. But, if you are the race fan or enthusiast you say you are then you need to witness a race or two at Salem Speedway.
Salem Speedway is located in Salem, Indiana, about an hour North of Louisville, KY. The ARCA Re/Max Series has been racing there for a long time and I have been fortunate enough to have competed in several events at the famed half mile speedway. You have all heard of Bristol, and, more than likely, you have seen a race at Bristol. Well, Salem Speedway would maybe be considered the Bristol of the ARCA Re/Max Series and other short track series across the country.
Everyone that has ever been to Salem Speedway as a competitor will give you an opinion of the place. That opinion is usually based on there experiences at the tough short track. The drivers either love it or hate it. It can be intimidating. It can be frustrating. But, it is respected by everyone. The high banks and worn out surface will get your attention. Salem is one of those tracks that you “race the racetrack” and not the other racers. As soon as you ignore the track, it will jump up and bite you. The NASCAR world knows the “Darlington Stripe” and the ARCA world know the “Salem Stripe.”
I am one of the drivers that love the place. From the first time I tested there I really enjoyed it. Those types of tracks have always fit my driving style: Salem, Winchester, and Pocono. These are what I would consider “race the racetrack” speedways. My last win came at Salem Speedway back in 2004. I will remember that win probably longer than I will my first ARCA win at Kansas Speedway. The two wins are very special but there is something that tells me that winning at Salem was a little tougher.
For the next week I will be thinking about the Salem Speedway. I was even having thoughts on how I could make it there to race while I was driving home from Nashville last Saturday. That probably will not happen but you can bet that I will be checking in on what is going on for the best race on April 22. It will actually be the best race in the country that weekend. Take a trip to check it out live or stay tuned to www.arcaracing.com to keep up with the exciting action at Salem Speedway.

Car of Tomorrow
I am just as tired of hearing all of the complaints about the COT as everyone else. With every change there are going to be big supporters and big opponents. The "Car of Tomorrow" or "Car of Today" since it has now been raced is no exception. You have heard drivers that like it and drivers that hate it but in the end I didn't see anyone giving up their seats. The reporters ask them their opinions and the drivers and crew chiefs tell them what they think. I like that part. At least some of the drivers and crew chiefs are stepping out and actually telling what they really think. This is a change compared to the cookie cutter answers that everyone seems to give in all other interviews.
